Warm colour, wandering lines

Raw Stromatolite catches the eye with ochre, tan and brown set against dark grey bands and scattered pale grey patches. Across the broad, flatter face, wavy lines curl into loops, giving the surface a wonderfully wandering rhythm. The knobbly ridges and crevices add another layer to explore, while small highlights pick out raised edges above the deeper shadows.

There is a little landscape to dream into here: the looping bands could become paths through an imagined garden, turning around low walls and slipping into narrow hollows. Yet the visible details are just as absorbing on their own—the uneven outline, the meeting of warm brown and cool grey, and a small bright edge that draws the eye back through the maze.
