Porphyry’s Little Islands of Colour
Dark reddish-brown gives porphyry pocket stones a rich backdrop for cream, tan, white and grey flecks. Dense speckling mingles with larger, irregular patches, drawing the eye between tiny points of colour and broader markings. Bright white reflections stand out against the darker tones, giving the smooth-looking surfaces a glossy appearance without hiding their richly patterned character.
In an imagined islandscape, those pale patches could become little shores scattered across a brown sea. The outlines suit that daydream: an oval, a pear-shaped profile, and a broad, irregular form with rounded corners. There is something absorbing about the contrast between those soft contours and the busy markings within them—a whole imagined coastline gathered into a rounded, pebble-like shape.
