How Others Treat You Has Little to Nothing to Do With You
Sometimes the way people treat you is not a reflection of your value. Sometimes it is only a reflection of where they are in themselves.
Lately, I have been thinking about my journeys, about the places I have passed through, and about how life is changing now.
For a long time, I removed myself from the followers, from the authority. I did not want to simply stand where people told me to stand, think what people told me to think, or live only inside the approved shape of reality.
Instead, I wandered.
I moved through different places, different people, different moods, and different fields of life. I studied what needed studying. I felt what would otherwise have stayed hidden. I entered spaces that many people would never notice, because if you only look from one official direction, so many things become blind spots.
Some people are kind. Some people are loving. Some people want to hug you out of nowhere, as if their heart recognises something before their mind does.
Some people simply want to feel the surroundings when you are with them. They become calmer. They become more open. They do not even know why.
And then there are others.
- Some people try to digest you.
- Some try to rob you.
- Some neglect you.
- Some use you.
- Some punish you for being different.
- Some look at human life and see only a coin, a number, a task, or a resource to take.
And the strange thing is this: the kinder you are, the more deeply all of this can affect you.
Because kindness is open. Kindness feels. Kindness does not walk through life covered in armour all the time.
So when the world is gentle, kindness receives beauty. But when the world is cruel, kindness receives the wound too.
Still, this does not mean the wound defines you.
It means you felt something. It means you were alive enough to be affected. It means your heart was not made of stone.
But it does not mean their actions are the truth of who you are.
Their Behaviour Belongs to Them
We often carry other people’s behaviour as if it is evidence about ourselves.
If someone ignores us, we think we are not worth noticing. If someone harms us, we wonder what is wrong with us. If someone humiliates us, we feel small. If someone steals from us, rejects us, mocks us, or neglects us, we may begin to believe that we somehow deserved it.
But this is usually not the truth.
Very often, people treat you according to what is happening inside them.
Maybe they are in trouble and do not know how to ask for help.
Maybe they have been mistreated all their lives and were slowly shaped into someone who mistreats others.
Maybe they were taught that power means domination.
Maybe they are afraid of what they do not understand.
Maybe they are so disconnected from their own heart that they can no longer recognise the heart of another.
Maybe they are simply chasing coins, status, safety, or control, and human life becomes invisible to them.
This does not excuse harm.
But it explains something important:
And once you understand this, you become a little freer.
You no longer need to collapse every time someone fails to see you. You no longer need to become ugly because someone else acted ugly. You no longer need to lose your entire sense of self because another person, group, or institution treated you without care.
You can look at what happened and say:
And then you can return to yourself.
You Are Older Than Their Opinion
You are not just someone’s judgement.
You are not just a mistake someone made about you. You are not just a file, a name, a role, a profession, a problem, a citizen, a customer, a worker, or a body standing in front of another body.
You are a creation of billions of years.
You are a living continuation of the universe trying to understand itself.
You are made from ancient matter, from time, from stars, from survival, from memory, and from all the lives that came before you.
You are not small just because someone small-minded treated you as small.
You are not worthless because someone did not know how to value you.
You are not dirt because you were thrown into mud.
Pick it up. Wash it. Look again.
Maybe what looked like dirt was only the place where something precious was hidden.
The People Around You Shape Your Power
At the same time, I was reminded of something else.
There are different fields of power in life.
I have seen many roads now. I have met many kinds of people. And I learned that when smarter, cooler, stronger, more honest, more creative, or more loving people are around me, I become stronger too.
Not because I disappear into them.
But because they show me something I did not know.
- They say one sentence, and suddenly I understand something for life.
- They correct one mistake, and my foundation becomes stronger.
- They reveal one idea, and a whole new room opens inside the mind.
- They act with courage, and something in me remembers courage too.
Then — You are smarter now.
Not just for one day. For life.
This is why surroundings matter. Not because they decide your worth, but because they can either crush your growth or accelerate it.
Some people shrink you.
Some people making you stronger.
Some people drain your life force.
Some people remind you that you have wings.
So when you outgrow certain places, do not always feel guilty.
Days will pass. Years will pass. You will change. You will outgrow rooms that once felt like the whole world.
And one day you may look back and realise that even the painful places taught you something. Not because they were good, but because you survived them and became more precise.
When Words Must Begin to Hold Power
Through all of this, I came to places where my insights became life-changing.
Powerful enough to touch lives. Deep enough enough to reshape the way someone sees themselves. Real enough to move from one person to many.
And then I realised something difficult:
Not the power of domination. Not the power of ego. Not the power of pretending to be above others.
But the power of responsibility.
Because sometimes one sentence can reshape someone’s reality from that moment onward.
One sentence can give someone courage. One sentence can stop someone from giving up. One sentence can return someone to themselves. One sentence can also wound, confuse, weaken, or break.
So I began to understand that I must learn to love the authority within myself.
Not authority as control over others.
But authority as inner alignment.
- The ability to make clear when a sentence is still thinking in progress — not a final judgement, but a search for understanding.
- The ability to stand behind a sentence when it has become true enough to be spoken.
- The ability to speak when speaking is needed.
- The ability to become silent when silence is wiser.
- The ability to carry enough inner weight that, when the time comes, one sentence can truly matter.
Will I Only Be Strong Now?
Will I only be super strong now?
No.
Because we are shapeshifters.
Sometimes I wander away into the realm of dreams. Sometimes I am soft, like a teddy bear for someone who needs hugs. Sometimes I become a messenger to someone stronger than me. Sometimes I need to listen. Sometimes I need to learn. Sometimes I need to be small enough to pass through a narrow door — like a tugboat, small but powerful enough to move giants.
And sometimes there is no one else.
Then I need to become immovable.
Then, together with the heart, I need to force power into decisions that must be made. Then I need to stand like a mountain. Then I need to speak like a person who cannot be moved by fear, confusion, manipulation, or pressure.
It may look strange from the outside.
Someone may ask, “Are you out of your mind?”
And maybe the answer is:
Like a cosplayer of consciousness. Like someone who knows how to change form. Like someone learning to become universal.
Not fake. Not acting. Not pretending.
But adapting.
Because life is not one fixed role.
Some people cannot go out of their minds, so they stay tough all their lives. They accept one version of themselves and defend it until the end.
But some of us have to move differently.
We have to become soft when softness heals.
Strong when strength protects.
Quiet when silence listens.
Loud when truth must interrupt.
Dreamlike when reality becomes too narrow.
Practical when dreams need hands and feet.
We have to become whatever is needed.
Not because we have no identity.
But because our identity is larger than one shape.
You Are Not Just What Happened to You
So do not worry.
- You are not only your profession.
- You are not only your name.
- You are not only your past.
- You are not only your surroundings.
- You are not only what people did to you.
- You are not only what authority decided about you.
- You are not only the consequence of a difficult place.
You are moving.
Time will pass. You will evolve.
What hurts now may one day become knowledge. What confuses you now may one day become language. What tried to bury you may one day become the soil from which something stronger grows.
And how others treat you?
That is not the full story of you.
Sometimes it is only the story of where they are.
You are in a very long line of cosmic evolution, travelling through an ever-changing and growing life.
You are still becoming.
No one else’s blindness can cancel your light. No one else’s cruelty can define your soul. No one else’s failure to see you can erase what you are becoming.
So stand up, wash the mud from the jewel, and keep going.
