Sodalite’s Blue Islands

Deep blue meets white and cream in this sodalite obelisk, with tan and brown patches adding earthy notes to its irregular mottling. Fine pale lines branch across the smooth, glossy faces, while the upright, many-sided shape gathers those wandering patterns into a sharply pointed tip.

Sodalite is closely related to lazurite, the blue mineral responsible for the characteristic colour of lapis lazuli. That connection adds another layer of interest to its rich blue and pale contrasts.

In an imagined world, the pale patches could be islands scattered through dark blue water, their shores traced by slender branching lines. Bright highlights on the glossy faces bring us back to the stone itself: a landscape of irregular colour held within the clear geometry of a tower.
