Quartz – Drill, a Little Landscape of Light
Milky white and softly clouded, Quartz – Drill catches the light in bright highlights. The short cylindrical outlines have roughly circular ends, yet irregular edges keep them from looking too exact. Here and there, the white gives way to nearly colourless areas along the edges, revealing a little translucency amid the cloudiness.
The frosted-looking sides contrast with several rough, uneven end faces, giving the quartz a character that is both simple and wonderfully varied. In an imagined winter landscape, these forms could become tiny ice columns, their pale outlines broken by ragged rims. The smallest detail brings that landscape into focus: a nearly colourless sliver along an otherwise cloudy edge.
