Philosopher’s Stone, Little Islands of Light
Philosopher’s stone moves through nearly colourless tones, pale grey and smoky brown, a muted palette brought alive by small, bright surface highlights. Several of the pictured pieces look translucent, while their irregular outlines vary between rounded, pebble-like forms and more angular chips. Against the dark surroundings, those glints invite a closer look at the different shapes.
Smooth areas meet uneven edges, lending each visible outline its own character. Some curves seem gentle; other edges interrupt them with a sharper turn. In an imagined miniature landscape, these pale and smoky forms might become little islands, their shores rounded here and jagged there. The surface highlights would be tiny lights along the water’s edge, picking out a curve before it disappears into brown.
