A lantern dream in labradorite
Vivid blue and cyan meet green, yellow and pale grey across the dark grey-brown face of this labradorite pendant. Its rounded oval outline gives the colours a gentle frame, while a smooth, glossy surface catches bright white highlights. Irregular dark lines cross the mottled markings, keeping the colour from feeling too neat or uniform.
Labradorite’s coloured flashes are known as labradorescence. Microscopic layers of feldspar interact with light to produce them—a hidden structure that makes the visible colour all the more fascinating to look at.
There is a hint of drifting lanterns in this palette, as though blue and green lights were travelling over dark water. A patch of yellow becomes the last lantern still glowing between the irregular dark lines.
