Howlite Wing, a Little Flight in White
A broad, rounded wing tapers towards a soft tip in this howlite pendant. Predominantly white, with faint grey and beige lines, it has a gentle palette brought to life by bright highlights. Its glossy surface contrasts with the recessed feather-like grooves, giving the wing a rhythm of smooth curves and fine detail.
Howlite takes its name from Henry How, the chemist and mineralogist who first described the mineral. That human connection sits neatly alongside this expressive shape: a mineral bearing a scientist’s name, with an outline that suggests flight.
The wing might belong to a storybook bird gliding above a pale river, its feathers gathered rather than spread. Here, that sense of movement rests in the outline itself, especially the scalloped lower edge sweeping towards the rounded tip.
