Hematite sphere – 30mm

Hematite sphere — a little moon of silver-grey

Dark charcoal-grey gives way to silver-grey across this hematite sphere’s smooth, glossy curve. Broad white reflections brighten the surface, while darker reflected areas lend it depth. Look a little closer and fine scattered speckling adds a delicate texture to the shine, a small counterpoint to the clean, rounded outline.

Hematite has a surprising colour contrast: it can form silvery-grey crystals with a metallic appearance, while the finely divided mineral is reddish brown. Its colour story reaches beyond the greys visible in this piece.

In an imagined constellation cove, the sphere could become a dark moon above still water. Its broad reflections would gather like starlight, and the scattered specks could mark distant stars along a bright shoreline on a charcoal-grey moon.
