Ammonite Fossil, Curves in Cream and Amber
The ammonite fossil draws the eye inward along thin cream lines, then outward again through curved compartments that gradually widen. Dark brown and reddish-brown areas mingle with amber tones, while pale beige patches break up the richer colours. Across the face, dense pale speckles give the smooth-looking, reflective areas a delicate visual grain.
Bright white reflections stand out especially on the paler areas, alongside irregular patches with a translucent look. The spiral might suggest an imagined landscape of sweeping terraces, each curve holding its own shade of warmth. Yet a dark, jagged line crosses the centre, interrupting that gentle rhythm: a striking contrast between the coil’s measured curves and one unruly mark.
