A Little Garden in Howlite
White and off-white sweep across this Howlite palmstone, crossed by irregular grey lines that branch, wander and gather into broader patches. Its flattened oval outline has rounded edges and a gently domed face, where soft highlights catch the smooth, softly glossy surface.
Howlite takes its name from Henry How, the chemist and mineralogist who first described it. That connection gives the name a different warmth: a human thread woven into the mineral’s pale, patterned character.
Within those branching lines, a tiny imagined garden takes shape—grey paths beneath pale arches, opening and dividing as they go. The wider grey patches become sheltered corners, while a soft gleam follows the curve of the face like light passing over a garden wall.
