Girasol — floating light, clouded clarity and an aura of quiet revelation

Girasol Quartz is a translucent-to-semi-transparent form of milky Quartz admired for its soft internal glow. Microscopic inclusions and fine structural irregularities scatter incoming light, creating a hazy white, bluish or faintly pink luminosity that appears to move beneath the surface as the stone or light source turns.

  • Light that seems to float: its diffuse glow may gather into a billowy patch that shifts position as the viewing angle changes.

💫 Turning-sun lore and care

“Girasol” describes an optical appearance rather than a formally defined Quartz species, and the word has also been applied historically to Opal, Sapphire and other gems showing floating light. Girasol Quartz should not be confused with natural Opal, Feldspar Moonstone or synthetic “Opalite” glass.

Like other Quartz, Girasol measures 7 on the Mohs scale and has no cleavage, although it remains brittle and may chip under sharp impact. Clean it with lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft cloth or brush, then dry thoroughly. Avoid sudden temperature changes, harsh chemicals, steam and ultrasonic cleaning when fractures, fillings or treatments are present or uncertain.
