Sodalite is a sodium-rich aluminosilicate chloride with the ideal formula Na8(Al6Si6O24)Cl2. This feldspathoid usually appears as royal-blue to navy masses crossed by Calcite, Feldspar, Nepheline or other pale mineral zones rather than as isolated crystals.

  • Its framework contains microscopic cages: linked Silicon–Oxygen and Aluminium–Oxygen tetrahedra form cavities that host Sodium, Chloride and colour-producing sulfur species.
  • Its blue is structural chemistry at work: sulfur-related colour centres within those cages commonly create the mineral’s indigo, royal-blue and violet-blue shades.
  • Its white pathways record a mixed geology: pale veins and patches often belong to Calcite or associated minerals that entered fractures or grew beside the blue Sodalite.
