Charoite is a rare, complex hydrated silicate mineral celebrated for swirling fibres in lavender, lilac, royal violet and deep purple. Most polished pieces are technically charoitite—a rock dominated by Charoite and interwoven with dark Aegirine, pale feldspar, honey-orange Tinaksite and related minerals. Their contrasting currents create the unmistakable appearance of violet silk flowing through stone.

  • Moving violet silk: aligned and interwoven mineral fibres create a pearly sheen that appears to flow as the stone turns.
  • A rare geological origin: meaningful ornamental material is closely associated with the Murun Massif in Siberia’s Sakha Republic.

Charoite is a comparatively modern arrival in the gemstone world rather than a gem with an ancient continuous tradition. Its distinctive fibrous patterns became widely recognised during the twentieth century.

Charoite is approximately 5–6 on the Mohs scale, but fibrous intergrowths and natural fractures can make individual pieces vulnerable to impact. Clean gently with lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft cloth, then dry promptly. Avoid acids, harsh chemicals, steam and ultrasonic cleaning.
