Raw Aventurine: A Small Landscape in Green
Muted grey-green gives this raw aventurine a gentle character beneath its rugged surface. Dense pale speckles cover the granular-looking face, interrupted by larger whitish patches. Light picks out the uneven ridges.
Aventurine takes its name from an Italian expression meaning “by chance,” through the name of glittering aventurine glass. That playful origin offers a light-hearted contrast to the rough, angular character of this piece.
Its pale markings suggest a little imagined landscape: lanterns drifting above a grey-green shore, their distant lights scattered like the speckles across the stone. The outline gives that daydream its shape—a narrow, uneven top widening towards a broad base, like a rocky headland beneath the lanterns.
