Where the sea becomes a shape
Aquamarine takes on a different character in these angular pieces. Pale blue-green faces meet stepped edges, with cloudy cream and small ochre patches adding contrast. Rather than one even wash of colour, there are little changes to follow: a lighter edge, a muted plane, a corner where the light rests.
Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family, whose crystals can grow as elongated, six-sided prisms. There is something fascinating in that meeting of geometry and watery colour. Angular outlines give the eye a path to follow, while the pale shades keep the scene light.
Imagine a small stretch of coast seen from above: shallow water, pale rock and a few warmer traces of sand. The angles become miniature headlands, and the blue-green spaces between them suggest a sea still finding its way around the shore.
