Schorl tourmaline draws the eye with deep black colour and bright white reflections across its curved face. Fine grey lines trace the glossy-looking surface, with pale flecks and occasional tan-coloured marks breaking up the darkness. These small interruptions give the black a varied appearance rather than a single, flat tone.

Its rounded, uneven oval outline has the easy character of a pebble, with curves that soften the bold colour.
