Tourmaline’s Dark Ridges, Bright Edges

Predominantly black, this tourmaline has a striking play of darkness and reflected light. Grey and white highlights break across the rough surfaces, while bright glints catch the raised ridges against the dark recessed areas. Its elongated, chunky outlines feel bold rather than delicate, with angular sides and prominent parallel grooves drawing the eye along each column-like form.

The rough, irregular ends interrupt those long lines, giving the tourmaline a character that is anything but uniform. You might picture a miniature landscape of dark cliffs, their crests picked out by light and their narrow valleys hidden in shadow. Up close, that imagined landscape gives way to the piece’s own details: a bright ridge, an uneven edge, and the darkness between two parallel grooves.
