Stromatolite, Winding Paths in Ochre
Stromatolite brings a rich contrast of black and dark brown to bands of tan, ochre and warmer brown. Fine, wavy lines travel across the smooth-looking surfaces, gathering into loops and concentric patterns. Bright white reflections catch on the glossy curves, giving these compact, pebble-like forms a lively play of light against their darker areas.
There is something garden-like in those winding bands—a small, imagined landscape of ochre paths and brown terraces, turning gently around one another. The rounded, irregular shapes soften the intricate patterning, while each change from pale tan to deep brown gives the eye another route to follow. Look closer, and the broad bands give way to finer lines, like narrow paths threading through the larger curves.
