A Little Landscape in Petrified Wood

Honey-brown and tan meet deeper brown across this petrified wood pendant, traced with thin cream-coloured markings. Mostly vertical streaks give the face a gentle sense of length, while irregular pale lines cross them in their own wandering rhythm. Its smooth, glossy surface catches a bright white reflection towards the upper right, bringing a flash of light into the warm palette.

The elongated rounded rectangle, with its slightly uneven curved sides, gives those wandering markings a softly bounded space. The colours suggest an imagined terraced garden: honey-toned paths, darker beds of earth and narrow pale walkways linking one level to another. Much of this pendant’s character lies in the meeting of two directions—long brown streaks and fine cream trails that choose their own crossings.
