Obsidian and the Light at Its Tip
Dark and glossy, this obsidian obelisk has the presence of a small tower. Black gives way to dark grey across its smooth faces, while bright white and grey reflections gather especially around the pointed top. Fine speckling adds delicate detail to the otherwise sleek appearance.
Obsidian is volcanic glass, formed when lava cools so quickly that crystals have little chance to grow. That glassy character offers an intriguing contrast to the obelisk’s crisp geometry: straight sides rise towards triangular upper faces that meet at a single tip.
In an imagined luminous cavern, this dark tower might seem to catch a sliver of the surrounding light. There is something compelling about that meeting of darkness and brightness—the broad black faces leading the eye upwards to a sharply illuminated point.
