A little woodland in stone
Dark green branching and mottled patterns gather inside moss agate's rounded grey-white shapes. Some marks look like small thickets; others spread into quieter patches, leaving pale spaces between them. Look closely and the pattern keeps changing its scale, from a tiny detail to something that could fill a whole woodland.
Moss agate takes its evocative name from those moss-like patterns. It is a lovely example of how a stone's appearance can meet the imagination: the name offers a familiar image, while each arrangement of green and pale colour leaves something new to discover.
Picture a clearing after rain, with fern shadows crossing a light path and deeper green waiting beyond it. There is no need to find one fixed picture in the stone. Another small landscape may appear the next time you look.
