A little world of russet and light

Reddish brown and black meet in the Mahogany obsidian sphere pendant, where irregular patches and streaks give the rounded centre its own lively pattern. Open, sweeping silver-coloured bands curve around it, their bright highlights answering the shine of the glossy sphere.

Obsidian is volcanic glass, formed when lava cools so quickly that crystals have little chance to grow. That discovery offers another way to appreciate this piece: the volcanic glass of its centre carries both a rich contrast of colour and a bright reflection of light.

The dark streaks could become an imagined river winding between reddish-brown banks. The surrounding curves leave that little landscape open to view, while gleaming points along the bands echo the bright bends of its course.
