Lapis Lazuli’s Little Blue Canopy
Deep blue fills this lapis lazuli drop pendant, broken by pale cream and grey-green patches and scattered gold-coloured speckles. Bright white reflections skim its smooth, glossy front. The rounded shape narrows at the top and broadens towards the base, giving the mottled colours more room to unfold.
Those colours suggest a small, imagined canopy after dark: blue gathered between leaves, pale openings overhead, and tiny golden lights caught among the branches. The curved outline holds this little world together without making its pattern feel orderly.
Lapis lazuli also has a place in the story of colour: its blue lazurite was ground to make ultramarine pigment. That connection offers another way to appreciate the pendant’s blue, here sharing its surface with cloudy patches and fine gold-coloured points.
