Iceland Spar’s Slanted Light
Iceland spar catches the eye with angular, block-like outlines and faces that meet at a slant. Mostly colourless, it shows cloudy white areas beside transparent-looking sections, with faint bluish highlights lending a cool note. Bright reflections catch on the flat faces, giving the pale outlines a crisp gleam.
Look closer and fine pale lines interrupt the shine; some edges carry uneven patches that break up the crisp geometry. In an imagined luminous cavern, these forms could become glassy rooms, each slanted face opening onto another pocket of light. There is something lovely in the contrast between their firm outlines and softer appearance: a cloudy white haze framed by straight edges, with blue barely touching the light.
