A Little World in a Howlite Egg
White gives this howlite egg its airy character, while irregular grey markings bring an intricate rhythm. Fine branches mingle with broader mottled patches, some pale and others noticeably darker. Across the smooth, glossy surface, long reflections follow the curve from the rounded crown towards the fuller lower half.
Howlite is named after Henry How, the chemist and mineralogist who first described it—a human connection to accompany the pleasure of looking closely.
There is room for a little imagined world here: a luminous white cavern, its walls traced with wandering grey seams. The egg’s softly enclosed shape gathers that scene into a miniature landscape, with a bright ribbon of light crossing the branching lines.
