Fire Calcite’s Ember-Coloured Landscape

Orange and reddish-orange give this raw fire calcite a warm, glowing palette, broken by scattered cream-white and pale grey patches. Its squat, irregular outline has broad sides and an uneven upper edge: a chunky shape with plenty of small details to draw the eye. Across the rough-looking surface, little bright highlights pick out angular faces among the ridges and recesses.

There is an appealing contrast between the broad shape and the many tiny changes across its surface. Your eye can follow an edge, dip into a recess, then return to a flash of light. For a moment, it might become a miniature landscape in the imagination, with cream-white clearings opening between ember-coloured hills.
