Dumortierite’s Many Shades of Blue
Pale blue gives way to deeper blue and blue-grey across the dumortierite stones. Whitish patches and irregular pale streaks break up the colour, while fine speckling gives the glossy surfaces a more intricate character. There is plenty to follow within these rounded outlines.
Some forms are oval or elongated; others approach a triangle or a square softened at the corners. Bright white reflections catch the curves. Smoothness and mottling sit together, each making the other more noticeable.
Their blue palette could suggest an imagined pool beneath a leafy canopy, with pale streaks like fragments of reflected sky. One stone adds a small yellow-brown patch—a warm interruption among the cooler shades, like a single fallen leaf in the blue.
