An Amethyst Cathedral of Violet and Shadow
Deep purple draws the eye into this amethyst cathedral, where an elongated opening fills most of the tall, asymmetrical front. Pale lavender softens the cavity’s edge, while small bright reflections catch on the closely clustered points. Farther inside, the recess holds its darkness.
Along the irregular rim, narrow white, grey and blue-green bands trace wavy boundaries against the charcoal-coloured exterior. The comparatively even outer sides give those rippling layers a striking contrast, with a curved side widening towards the flat-looking base.
Amethyst takes its name from the Greek amethystos, recalling an old belief about sobriety. Here, its shape suggests a small arched garden made of crystal rather than leaves: a narrow, rounded summit above a gathering of purple points, with light scattered between their shadows.
